I Kicked An Office Chair With Force Out Of Anger

Question: I kicked an office chair with force out of anger 4 mths ago. It took 3 mths to figure out (after getting an mri) that i have a non displaced transverse fracture in the base of my little toe on right foot. I also have a bone bruise on the bottom of the head of my 5th metatarsal, and swelling in the joint between the 5th metatarsal and the broken toe. At the 3 mth mark, I started wearing a stiff soled shoe and have been wearing it for a month, with 2 weeks to go. I have more ache and pain in the 5th metatarsal than i do in the broken toe. I continue to limp and have pain when walking. What should my expectations be as far as a timeframe for my foot ever feeling back to normal again if at all? Thank you !

Brief Answer:
Should be recovered after about several months

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question. Hope I can be of help for you today. Bone bruises on the bottom of the head of 5th metatarsal and swelling with pain from trauma, usually it should be recovered after about several months. After 3 month if you still have swelling and pain it can be caused by repetitive microtrauma from the tendon and if the broken toe doesn’t heal properly could cause osteoarthritis. For pain and swelling you can use non steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) and avoid the offending activity. See a doctor if not improve, he or she will do a physical examination and treat the underlying cause.

I hope that I can help you, and please let me know if you have any clarification or question about that, and I would be welcome to discuss it with you further. I Hope your son has good health.

Cortisone medicine is an immunosuppressive drug so it will cause you a lot of complications
