I Know You Should Not Take Expired Medicine But I
Question: I know you should not take expired medicine but I have a special case. I live in a country where I cannot get the medicine I have always used for the occasional migraine headache I get. I cannot seem to get an acceptable substitute here and of course with the COVID travel restrictions cannot travel to a country to obtain them. I have some very effective medicine stocked up - APO RIZATRIPTAN 5 MG - but it expired 1.5 years ago (April 2019). What do you think? Dump them or try one next time I have a headache and perhaps the pill is not as effective as it usually is but better than nothing?
Your opinion please....

Brief Answer:
You can use Rizatriptan after the expiration date.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
You can use the medication (Rizatriptan 5 mg) after the expiration date.
If the medication is stored in good conditions, probably it will be effective.
On the contrary, it might not be effective, but it will not have any side effects.
So, it is safe to use it.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards!
