I M Battling AMD And Have Been On A Regiment
Question: I'm battling AMD and have been on a regiment of Lutein, Zeaxanthin and Meso-Zeaxanthin for a number of years and have successfully kept it in check. It appears father time is catching up with me and I'm losing vision in one of my eyes rapidly. My AMD is dry. I also converted to a very restricted diet, no sugar, white flour, or polyunsaturated oils about nine months ago in hopes that this may have a positive effect. Do you have any suggestions as to what else I may do to try and slow this dreaded disease down... Thanks.. XXXXXXX MacGregor/ XXXXXXX CO.

Brief Answer:
Did they do An OCT scan of the retina preferably angiography?
Detailed Answer:
Hello, thanks for the question.
AMD is no doubt devastating to anybody.
Did they do any oct scan or any oct angiography of the eye to be sure that it is?
In fact, dry and has not converted to wet type as progressive loss of vision happens when it converts to the wet type...
Secondarily, wet type responds to injections in the eye. If this point is ruled out then we can have you evaluated for use of low vision aids as they are no less than a blessing in such conditions.
Hope my answer helps you. Feel free to discuss further.

Thanks Dr. Harshita ... I've had the tests you listed and received Avastin injections for 6 months to treat a boarder-line wet AMD condition with one of my eyes. I'm now getting an injection every 60 days since the recent tests show that most of the wet condition has been arrested/stopped but I'm now battling the dry degeneration. My question was what other things are you aware of which may help slow this very aggressive disease even if its not in the realm of what is called "traditional western medicine?" Your thoughts ....
