I Recently Saw A Pulmonologist (sp) Regarding A Chronic, Often

default
Posted on Sat, 3 Nov 2018
Question: I recently saw a pulmonologist (sp) regarding a chronic, often productive cough. He mentioned I may need to have a braceotomy (sp) procedure. I have been tested for COPD which resulted in a result of undetermined. I smoked in the past. I don't have any problems breathing. However, from time to time when I lay down to sleep, I can some times hear rattling in my chest. Questions:
1.What is a braceotomy procedure?
2.What is the purpose this procedure?
3. Is it done under anesthesia?
3. Is it invasive (skin or organs cut) into?

Brief Answer:
There is no term like braceotomy.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I have gone through the history you have given.
I am practising pulmonologist since last 8 years and I have not come across any terminology like Braceotomy.
By your history and description, possibility of either bronchitis or bronchiectesis is more likely.
Bronchiectesis if isolated in one lobe then surgical removal of lobe (lobectomy) is required.
For bronchitis, surgical options are not much advised because of poor outcomes.
So please let me know
1. Chest x ray or CT thorax report if you had any of these done
2. PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) report if done.
3. Pulmonologist 's notes so that I can get idea about the surgery he has advised.
I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
