I Recently Started Using A Compound For An Anal Fissure

Question: I recently started using a compound for an anal fissure and it seems to be seeping towards my vagina. I move around alot so it seems to mix with vaginal discharge. Is there a way to prevent that or the question I'm more curious about will it harm my vagina? The compound is Nifedipine 3%, lidocaine 2% and hydrocortisone 2.5%. The pharmacist instructed to use a pea size. Thank you for your time.

Hi,

The compound does not cause harm to the vagina. You may be using it for a week or two I think.
This will not cause harm. However, to reduce the amount of this medication seeping towards the vagina try using a panty liner. Some portion of the compound would get absorbed by the panty liner.
Whenever you are cleaning that area after urination or defecation, clean from front to back. This also helps in removing the compound that may be seeping towards vagina.
Best wishes.

I was never physically examined by my doctor, it was a video call and my doctor diagnosed me over the phone with the symptoms I provided. Told me it was an anal fissure and prescribed a compound. I understand anal fissures can take (4-6) weeks to heal. I've been taking the compound prescribed and I'm still in pain. I was told it could take a couple days to help with the pain, but the area now seems a bit raw and really tender to the touch. Is this normal? Should I continue with the ointment/compound until my follow up in a week, july 28th? Thank you for your time.

Hi,
welcome back.
If that area is tender and appears raw, it is important that you get examined by doctor at the earliest. Do not wait until your appointment.
Best wishes.
