I Seem To Get An Eye Stye/ Chalazion Whenever I

Question: I seem to get an eye stye/chalazion whenever I exert myself through exercise... I've not had any luck researching why this might be the case. Any ideas? Possible autoimmune condition?
Brief Answer:
lid margin infect
Detailed Answer:
My dear,
Thanks for sending your query to us.
This primarily is a lid margin infection.Stress of exercise may or may not be related. There are mebomian glands at the lid margin, which may get infected and the long term management is getting rid of this infection.
This we achieve by bed time application of antibiotic ointment, the antibiotic of choice being Tetracycline,to be continued for 6 weeks.
There are individual variations but the association with exercise may well be a coincidence as well.
Do get back to me in case of any further query in this regard

Hi Dr. Misra,
Yes, I've heard that bacterial infection is the primary cause of eye stye. I have seen some effectiveness in taking doxycycline capsules in treating them. However, my styes usually turn into chalazions and I've noticed a correlation between exercise and the eye stye in myself. I used to get them more frequently (one every 1-2 months) but since stopping exercise for close to a year, I don't get them anymore. The last two times I tried to start exercise again, I got another stye within a day or two. It's very odd and I want to start exercise again but I don't want to deal with unsightly and painful eye styes all the time.

Brief Answer:
Lid margin infection.
Detailed Answer:
My dear,
Good of you to get back to me.
There are about 20 glands in the upper lid and approximately 12 in the lower lid. These infections may present in adjoining glands. In cases of recurrent infection, we always like to rule out refractory errors.
There is no reason to refrain from exercise. Just maintain proper hygiene and diet.
Regards
