Question: I take Klonopin 2mg. I understand that smoking cigarettes will reduce the effects of Klonopin. As I love cigarettes and am very dependant on the Klonopin to maintain my sanity (am also Schizoaffective). I'd like to know how long I need to refrain from smoking before taking my Klonopin to make sure I get the full effect. And at what point can I smoke after taking Klonopin as to not reduce the effectiveness at all

Correction, 1mg Klonopin. Would also like to know if I can vape nicotine e-juice without affecting the Klonopine?

I can understand your concern. If we consider smoking then smoking is an enzyme inducer. Smoking results in induction of hepatic microsomal enzymes mainly CYP450.

Clonazepam is metabolised by hepatic enzymes. But if we go in more details then Clonazepam is metabolised specifically by a different enzyme than the enzymes that are induced by smoking. So smoking could lower the levels of Clonazepam but will not have much extensive effects on its levels.

But since nicotine is an CNS stimulant its actions are opposite to that of Clonazepam which is a CNS depressant. The stimulant action could reduce effects of Clonazepam. You can smoke while on Clonazepam. Avoid smoking in evening and keep a gap of at least 2 hours between smoking and taking Clonazepam.

I've read that the effect reduction only comes from cigarette smoke and that vaping nicotine juice has no effect on Klonopin, is this true?

Hello

No this will have no effects. Nicotine is responsible mainly for inducing the CYP enzymes. But as mentioned in first answer, the enzyme of Clonazepam is different and the effects will be only theoretical.

Since actions of nicotine and Clonazepam both are opposite so this could only cause effects.
