I Think Antigen Test Positive Means Infectious ?

default
Posted on Thu, 3 Oct 2024
Question: Dr. Biswas, I got Covid with Wed 31 Aug starting in the morning with a feeling that my throat had been sand papered finely but no other symptoms, followed by fever (101.7) and rapid pulse (105+) on 1 Sep morning (Thu).
Q1: If Thu is considered day 1, how many days should we wait before we stop being infectious ?
( Usually, I think antigen test positive means infectious ?)

My wife fell sick a day later than me (Friday morning). The reason we ask is that our son is not sick and we have kept him in his room and left food outside on a chair for him. I plan to do an Antigen test Wed (7 Sep) evening. But when is it safe to enter his room with a mask ? And when can we sit there ?

Q2: My wife today ( day 4 for her) said she is feeling weak and not able to do some housework that is pending. Do we need any blood test ( Sodium/ pottasium and haemogramme ?) She says she feels hungry but since we have to prepare the meals and it gets delayed she cannot eat and there is also acidity

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question, I understand your concern.
Answer 1- usually after 7 days, it becomes non-infectious.
Antigen test may come positive even when non infectious. Because dead virus particles can also make test positive.
With mask it is safe to enter the room. And without mask, after 7 days from day 1.
Answer 2- yes she needs blood test.
Get complete blood count, liver function test done.
I hope your query is clear now.
Thanks and regards

Dr. My wife says weakness is present when waking up from sleep. When standing and work other times there is no weakness. Do we need Sodium and pottasium levels too ?
