Question: I took 1/2 a bottle of manganese citrate for constipation for the morning of the 23rd at 9Am at 1pm the laxative kicked in at 5pm I wanted the laxative to stop so I took Imodium. Was this a bad idea to potentially mix the 2 medicines? Now at 12:40 I woke up to nausea is this related to the Imodium and laxative. Or would the laxative be out of my system by now?

Brief Answer:
Its a bad idea to mix any laxative with imodium

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I would give atleast 24 hours interval between dose of laxative and imodium. The reason is their action on intestine. They move the intestine in different directions and if given together may cause some anatomical defect like perforation. Since you seem fine, then I am not worried.

Nausea could be due to the combination given together. But nothing to be worried about.
Laxative should be out of system in few hours but its effect on intestine may last longer. I will let the intestine get back its normal motility after any laxative.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks for the response, I went to the pharmacy and asked for zofran or zofron they said it needs a prescription. I’m not sure if I asked for the right item is there a brand I could look for. I was also wondering if I could take pepto bismol (bismuth) for the nausea?

Brief Answer:
You can take gravol

Detailed Answer:
Hi again
Zofran is brand name for Ondansetron. Ondansetron will definitely work for you but it maynot be available over the counter at all the stores. You can take gravol for nausea. Gravol is available over the counter in USA. I dont think pepto bismol will work for you.
