Question: I took the first dose of the abortion pill. I saw fetus and feel that it was complete. The clinic told me to take second dose 24hrs later. Is this necessary?

Hello,

I have gone through your query and here is my advice.

As per your history, I think you are taking tab. mifepristone and tab. misoprostol as abortion pills.

As per many studies, at 9 weeks of pregnancy, if you missed second dose i.e tab. misopristol then following things could happen,

1. There may be a missed abortion i.e fetus is no longer viable, but the products of pregnancy do not leave your body. This may require further intervention like vacuum aspiration.

2. It is also possible that your pregnancy might continue.

So in that view, for complete abortion I would suggest you to take second dose after 24 hrs as advised and confirm abortion by ultrasound after gynecologist consultation.
