Lifestyle approach works better.

Thanks for using the Ask a Doctor service.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. However, there are a number of variables to be taken in consideration. The first key factor would be your current weight and lifestyle. The next thing would be the specific modality you wish to try to achieve your goal and how rigorous you are ready to go. The third factor that you also need to keep in consideration is whether you would be able to sustain this rigor as otherwise you would start gaining back the weight you lose. So, rather than giving you a random figure of calorie cut down, I would suggest that you sit down with a gym trainer and a dietician and custom make a lifestyle plan that you would be able to sustain, rather than going for the fastest way which is within safety limits.

Ok. I’m not really a gym guy so I don’t see that. I’m really looking for calories. I’m 6 1” and 215. 195 is ideal for me. If you can give me a clue on calories I would appreciate it. I do plan to start walking a mile or two a day if I have time. I work a lot and am tired when I get home.
