Question: I was diagnosed with NAFLD about 10 years ago. Wasn’t told much about it. Now I have problems with frequent bouts of diarrhea that are urgent and very foul smelling. Not everyday but several times a month. The biggest symptom is that I am exhausted. Beyond exhausted.

Brief Answer:
Not related to NAFLD!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

NAFLD affects mainly the liver. Liver failure would be more prominent which is not typified by diarrhea. Your explosive and foul smelling diarrheas raises questions of indigestion. If you were a heavy alcoholic, then you might have damaged your pancreas and diarrhea would be more likely with fatty meals with floating stools for containing excess indigestible fats. My advice is that you should be evaluated for chronic diarrhea with stool exams. Also keep a diarrhea of when symptoms set in and what you eat before that.

In all, get evaluated for chronic diarrhea. Unlikely to be caused by NAFLD.

Hope this helps and guides. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.
