I Was Diagnosed With Bronchitis 7 Weeks Ago. I’ve Taken

default

Question: I was diagnosed with bronchitis 7 weeks ago. I’ve taken two zpacks, two methylprednisone packs, and most recently a burst of prednisone. I’ve been taking pulmocort 2x day for 3 weeks and albuterol almost every 4 hours. I’ve been to countless doctors, ER twice, and a pulmonologist. Lungs are always clear, but I feel SOB and still have a dry cough (all worse in morning). Two x-rays, CT scan, and blood work (pertussis, mycloplasma) all clear. I am at my wits end and have missed so much work. I am better than initially, but still sick. Help! Do I still have bronchitis? What else should I do?

Brief Answer:
Add Telfast and Omeprazole

Hello and welcome to 'Ask a Doctor' service...

Yes I can understand your concern

In my opinion, if you were my patient I would add in your current treatment antihistamines medication (antiallergic) such as Fexofenadine (Telfast) 180 mg twice orally for two weeks. There are some patients that have hipersensitive bronchitis which lasts more than the viral or bacterial one and in whom we use the above.

Another thing I would like to mention is that sometimes gastric reflux might be another cause of this chronic cough which worsens the situation. In such cases, we use also Omeprazole 40 mg once daily in the morning before breakfast.

Please discuss with your doctor for the above. If you smoke, please don't anymore.

Hope to have been helpful
