Question: I was diagnosed with chronic bacterial prostatitis from symptoms. My doctor thinks it might be from a previous chlamydia infection, but all of my follow up tests are negative for Chlamydia even when I have CBP symptoms. He doesn't think that it is contagious, but I'm worried that I could give chlamydia to my girlfriend even though the tests have been negative. Is it likely that I could be contagious and is it possible that I could get Chlamydia again if I have prostatitis from it?

Brief Answer:
Consult qualified Urologist

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query.
Based on the facts that you have posted you seem to have been facing symptoms of Prostatis since one year following episode of Chlamydia infection.

In view of positive evidence of infection which can remain dormant for couple of months can recur. The symptoms of CBP that you have are most likely to be due to what is called as Non Bacterial Chronic Infection of Prostate .

In such situation it is always advised to rule out the same by doing Microscopic examination and culture of a Urethral Discharge obtained by doing Digital Prostate Massage.

Please consult qualified Urologist for clinical and Digital Rectal examination and to collect sample of urerhral discharge for the said test. This will help to be rest assured about bacterial and Chlamydia infection .

Once the dormant infection is ruled out You need not worry about it being transferred to your girlfriend.

Thanks and Regards
