Brief Answer:
It should specify which strand you are infected to.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

HPV test contains different strands which are mainly classified low risk and high risk. It would be better if the test specifies the strand you are being infected to because there are 14 HPV types( 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66, and 68) that are considered high risk for the development of cervical cancer. However HPV types 16 and 18 have been regarded as the genotypes most closely associated with progression to cervical cancer.
Also a pap smear should be done to evaluate the lesions of cervix.

Hope I have answered the question.

Thank you! So what does it mean if my test result description says -

"Based on the results of the Cobas HPV test, there is a high probability that a higher disease stage WILL be detected at colposcopy"

I am unsure what that means.

Thanks !

Brief Answer:
Hpv high risk is detected but doesn't mean you have developed cancer.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
This means that it has been detected a high risk HPV in the specimen which gives increased risk of developing cancer but not necessarily that you have cancer
So a colposcopy needs to be done to see the lesions.

Should you get a colposcopy if you have high risk HPV but a normal pap?

Brief Answer:
Pap the is done firstly.

Detailed Answer:
Firstly you can do a pap test and if the results are suspicious for colum lesions you may need to do a colposcopy.
So pap smear is done firstly.
