I Was Diagnosed With Sudden Severe Hearing Loss What Could Happen?
Question: On this past Friday I was diagnosed with sudden severe hearing loss...sensory neural hearing loss. So far there is no cause known for this. I am on a two week steroid plan. My question is I have a strenuous hiking trip in Peru scheduled in one week and I am very concerned with my ability to manage possible side effects of prednisone, high altitude .... and obvious demands of such a trip. What could happen while away and should I cancel. I am not an experienced hiker and already have stomach issues I contend with gastroparesis. I have seen the list of side effects and it is cause for concern for me.
Brief Answer:
You can go for the trip while on prednisone.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Oral steroids does not cause much problems on short term use.
You are asked to take prednisone for two weeks only and it does not cause much problems to your health and you can safely take the drug while on your trip.
Keep in mind that prednisone causes increaed gastric acid secretion and may cause gastritis. You can take antacids like pantoprazole whole you are on prednisone.
Wishing you good health happy journey.
Thanks
