Question: I was driving I’m downtown XXXXXXX I ran over something. About five minutes later I got out of my car at a gas station. My pants may have brushed up against the tire. When I was driving back I saw an animal squished to a pulp. Don’t know what kind of animal it was. I went back to the hotel. Washed my pants and sprayed Lysol all over my car seat. Is there any risk for rabies. Will the Lysol spray kill it. Will it live in my truck?, am I or my kids in danger?

there's no risk to Rabies to this given circumstances...

Detailed Answer:
Hello there,
Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service...

I've gone through your query and understand your concerns...

Well, at this outset, let me reassure you that the chance of getting rabies is extremely unlikely in this fashion (practically speaking, almost nil)...

The kids seemed to be safe too...Although the virus can get killed to the exposure of the outside atmosphere, it's good that you sprayed Lysol additionally (which will actually take care of the other associated microbes)...

No need to worry since you've already taken enough measures regarding it...

Take Care
Kind Regards

Thank you,

I guess my concern was if some brain material or something got on my tire, then on my pants, then on my seat, I know this seems far fetched but it’s reslly bothering me

So no risk for rabies at all, in my kids will be safe to ride in my truck

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back,

Yes, I got that from your query earlier...

No, not to worry regarding Rabies...The fact that you've applied Lysol thoroughly after washing would've taken care of the minimal risk of spreading any other microbial infection in this fashion (although the chances of spreading them are even more unlikely)...

So, not to worry, ride safe and drive safe...

Take Care
Kind Regards
