I Was Recently Diagnosed With HSV2 In Early May. I
Question: I was recently diagnosed with HSV2 in early May. I had a 10 panel test done and was negative for all other STD including HIV. I had unprotected sex once in late March/first week of April. The HIV test used was the 4th generation. This is male/female PIV with the same person who says they were clean. Anyway, about 2 weeks before the test I had unprotected oral sex with him again. No ejaculation or anything. I had been seeing this guy for about two months. Things went south and that’s why I got tested in May. Anyway, for the past 2 weeks I have had a swollen lymph node in my neck that wouldn’t go away swabbed no strep and throat culture came back fine. I haven’t had any flu symptoms or cold symptoms. Nothing too out of the ordinary except a yeast infection.
So to sum everything up.
Had unprotected sex in late March/early April. Protected sex and unprotected oral about 2 weeks before a 4th generation HIV test. How accurate would a negative result be? This is female / male PIV
Individuals who have herpes or don’t do you take the prep or anything to prevent the increased risk due to outbreaks ?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Regarding HIV
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have gone through your query and noted your concern.
Protected sex is anyways safe.
Moreover, a screening test just 2 weeks after protected sex doesn't indicate much for a recent exposure. It however rules out HIV from all previous exposures, 3 months preceding the test. So it reliably rules out HIV from your exposure of last year in March/ April
Hope I have answered your query.
