I Was Recently Diagnosed With High Blood Pressure And High Cholesterol

Question: I was recently diagnosed with high blood pressure and high cholesterol. My heart doctor did a heart catheter and said there were no blockages. I was given 2.5mg Amilodopine taken twice daily, and 20mg Rovustatin taken once at night, as well as a baby aspirin in the morning. I have been taking this for 3 weeks. I have lost 20lbs since my diagnosis (3 weeks) through a low sodium, healthy diet. But there are days where I get extremely weak. I work 55hrs/week and have a family with 4 children. My anxiety has been crippling at times, and I can’t get away from it. I get light headed and start “sensing” every abnormality I may be feeling. I’ve never been one to “have” anxiety. I have always just pushed through any circumstance. I am 35 and a smoker (pack a day) I do not drink, or do any drugs. I have recently taken a .25mg Kalodopin(so?) because the anxiety is effecting my daily routine, as well as the tiredness. Any advice?? Am I doing something to worsen it? Is it my meds?

Hello

After going through the medical details provided by you I can understand your concern for your health and anxiety issues and I would like to tell you that know your medications has nothing to do with the symptoms which you are experiencing.

Your busy and hectic daily routine is now probably affecting your mental health which seems to be the most likely cause of your anxiety and stress.

In fact your smoking habit is actually creating a mess for you along with your work stress. Smoking provides nicotine to the body and Nicotine gives the immediate sense of relaxation and people believe that it reduces stress and anxiety.

However there are several studies which clearly proves that nicotine actually increases tension and anxiety in long-term.

I would like to suggest you to start practicing healthy lifestyle routine which includes daily exercise, healthy eating habits, adequate and sound sleep.

For your stress and anxiety situation there are two recommendation, one is to stop smoking and second is to join some yoga or meditation classes which will surely help you counter your stress levels. Review yourself after three months and if still the symptoms persist then it’s better to take the help of a psychologist or behavior therapist.

I hope this information will guide you properly.

Kind regards
Dr Bhanu XXXXXXX
