I Was Sick With The Flu About 7 Weeks Ago.

Question: I was sick with the flu about 7 weeks ago. I developed a cough after I recovered and have had it ever since. I sometimes have shortness of breath and have sometimes have small amounts of blood in my sputum. Is it normal to have a cough with these symptoms for this long, or is it a sign of something else?
Brief Answer:
No, these are not normal symptoms after flu.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
No, these are not normal symptoms.
These symptoms and history of flu suggest post infectious bronchitis or pneumonia.
So better to consult pulmonologist in person and get done clinical examination of respiratory system, chest x ray and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
Chest x ray is needed to rule out pneumonia.
PFT is must for the diagnosis of bronchitis.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
