Brief Answer:
Get done chest x ray and PFT.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, possibility of inhalational chemicals related bronchitis.
Your symptoms like excessive phlegm, breathlessness on exercise etc are commonly seen with bronchitis.
So better to get pulmonologist in person and get done clinical examination of respiratory system, chest x ray and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
Chest x ray is needed to rule out other lung diseases.
PFT will not only diagnose bronchitis but also tells you about severity of the disease and treatment is based on severity only.
You might need long acting inhaled bronchodilators (formoterol or salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone).
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Thank you. I was wondering, is it likely that this will improve over time? Or is this permanent damage to my lungs? It has been 4 weeks, so I wasn't sure if it's possible it could just take longer than that to heal. I had no idea these chemicals could cause such significant problems.
