I Was Watching A Tv Show On The Couch Head

Question: I was watching a tv show on the couch head raised but lying down and the room started spinning. I feel nauseous and threw up what I think was some sea weed salad I ate that had a sell date of a week ago which makes me wonder if food poisoning. I was hot and sweaty but now seem comfortable temperature wise. Trying to get up but feel like being pulled back by a magnet. Took blood pressure and was 146/97. I usually have 120/90.

Hello and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have read your query.
Yes, it is more likely a food poisoning that has caused your symptoms.
Changes in blood pressure are a common feature in such cases.
I recommend you to rest for a couple of days and to stay hydrated adequately.
Antiacid drugs may be of help.
If you will experience vomiting again or episodes of diarrhea, you should see your Doctor because electrolyte imbalance may occur.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

The dizziness has eased but I find it difficult to keep balanced if I try to walk or crawling
I still feel nauseous and when I drink water I vomit shortly after. I have no aches or pains. I just want to make sure these are normal food poisoning symptoms. Thank you for your prompt reply. I actually feel hungry and thirsty. Should I take an electrolyte drink. Thank you, Melanie

I cannot keep any liquids down let alone food. It is now about eight hours later from my first dizzy situation. The room is not spinning but I really can’t walk by myself. I’m off balance It is very difficult to explain very scary.
Is this a normal reaction to food poisoning? When I sit up I feel lightheaded and I’m too weak or something (dizzy?) to walk without my husband holding me. The room has stopped spinning but still feel some dizziness I have been sleeping a lot.
I am frightened that this is more than food poisoning?

Welcome back.
These symptoms after food poisoning may persist for a few days and, since you are feeling better, there is no reason to think about anything else.
Meanwhile, it is necessary to stay well hydrated.
Electrolyte fluids may help you.
If you can't take any food or fluids by mouth, you should see your Doctor and evaluate the possibility of I.V. fluids.
Hope this helps.
Regards

If your Doctor thinks that your system are caused by inappropriate positioning of the crystals of the inner ear ( benign paroxysmal positional vertigo ) then you can benefit from Epley maneuver.
You can try some appropriate exercises for vertigo by yourself ( Cawthrone exercises ) also.
So, you can undergo to Epley maneuver, it is a simple procedure without any significant adverse effects.
Hope I helped you.
Regards.

Hello again.
Alcohol has the properties of lowering the blood pressure and it may act as an antidepressant/anxiolytic.
This fact shows that both, high blood pressure and some anxiety about your condition are worsening your symptoms.
So, try not to worry much more than necessary and monitor your blood pressure for a couple of days.
Hope this helps.
Greetings.
