I Was Wondering What A Partial Bowel Obstruction Can Start Off Or Feel Like?

Question: I was wondering what a partial bowel obstruction can start off or feel like?

I had gastric bypass surgery on 7/15/20
and ive dealt with chronic constipation since then. fiber and laxatives help but recently i started to get bloated and have pain and pressure near my belly button.
i bloat up to 4 inches sometimes and its quite painful and uncomfortable. I finally got some relief today going to the bathrooom and it was very painful, a lot and there was TMI blood.
Ive been nauseous too, a lot to be hoenst they say the pain and pressure i get near my belly button is normal and its really tender sometimes. my ct scan was normal.
my stomach keeps bloating and its just uncomfortable sometimes but not always painful. but sometimes it is painful.

Brief Answer:
Pain, localized bloating to start with, nausea/vomiting.
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history and understood the concerns.
After reading your history my thoughts and answers to your questions are as follows:
- Partial bowel obstruction can start like the symptoms you have mentioned. Pain, bloating, nausea/vomiting, constipation but not much alarming as seen in complete obstruction.
- Whenever one gets bloating with pain and nausea a simple X-ray of abdomen in standing position can sometimes be most informative for obstruction. Please manage this. CT scan would have been normal as there might not have been an obstruction at the time of getting the CT done.
- Incisional hernia at the port sites are difficult to diagnose as they are small and can cause partial obstruction as they are not large enough in the initial stage. Needs clinical examination when you have symptoms and supportive investigations at the same time. Local tenderness, swelling, gurgle sound and such signs help a lot in clinical diagnosis.
- Continue laxatives and fibers .
- Increase water/fluid intake with fibers.
- Get the stool tests done as occult blood can have diagnostic value.
- Identify the foods and beverages that instigate or enhance your symptoms and avoid these.
- I hope this answers your query.
-Please give feedback and ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.

What is the pain is just sharp and intermittent but not severe pain near my umbilical area?
Brief Answer:
Since the symptoms are acute, please go to ER
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your additional information.
There are more chances of port-site hernia at the umbilical region.
If you have so many symptoms please go to ER (Emergency Room) and get clinical examination as well as necessary investigations to find the cause and get treated accordingly.
Discuss about the above points in first answer with your Doctors.
