I Went To My Obgyn To Get Some Tests Done

Posted on Sat, 4 Jul 2020
Question: I went to my obgyn to get some tests done over a week ago and received back that I have mycoplasma and ureaplasma infections. I was wondering how I got these since I have been with the same sexual partner for over 8 months and both of us were tested for everything prior. I was wondering the cause since we’ve only been with each other in the past 8 months and ways to prevent it from happening again.

Hello and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have gone through your query and noted your concern.

Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma are sexually transmitted infections and it is certain that you got the infection from your sexual partner.

However, since the infection can remain asymptomatic, so it is not possible to know, which one got it from, if you have had other sexual partners in the past.

Hope I have answered your query...

Detailed Answer:
hi.
There is no other way that you could get genital infection from mycoplasma and Ureaplasma urealyticum. What was the test used? was it a PCR test on urine/ vaginal swab?
Take care

they had done a urine test for my partner and a urine/vaginal swab test for myself. neither of us showed positive for anything and we have not been with any other partners since.

Detailed Answer:
hi.
fine. That is a confirmatory test. Irrespective of how you got it, you and your partner can take a single 1gm dose of Azithromycin. That would be effective for both these STDs.
Take care
