I Went To The ER Yesterday After Waking Up Short
Question: I went to the ER yesterday after waking up short of breath. I had a lower reading on the oximeter and felt like I was having trouble getting air. Once I got there they gave me saline and did a few tests but couldn’t find anything except my C02 being marked as low at 20 on the labs along with a few other criteria. My creatinine was marked as low (52mg/dL) and Osmoality calculated (274 mOsm/kg) also marked as low. This has to have been contributing as I was having trouble walking and had a high heart rate and low bp. It was miserable and I was lightheaded and disoriented. Everything else came back normal and once they gave me some saline it helped a bit but i was still pretty weak and winded it took all day and 2 bags of saline. They retested my blood before discharge though but the labs were the same. To me this looks metabolic. I’m no doctor but have worked in the medical field for 15 years in coding but ultimately would like an interpretation of what this could indicate. I take atenolol for autonomic dysfunction and Alpha Lipoic Acid supplements along with Aspirin daily. I wanted to attach my labs to this thread but I guess there is not an option to attach a photo.
Brief Answer:
Hyperhydration and tachycardia possible.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I see the results of the tests you did and osmolarity is slightly low co is low and creatinine is a bit low.
I don't think this is related to metabolic disorder but looks more like hyperhydration or excessive water intake.
The parameters don't match to any metabolic disorder.
The episode you had may be related to autonomic dysfunction you are having. It seems like tachycardia episode related to autonomic dysfunction.
I believe you may need to consult your cardiologist.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
