Question: I will get cramps like I need to have a bowel movement however when I go it is diarrhea and very little comes out. I get this several times a day for the past 2 weeks. About 25 years I was diagnosed with IBS but it went away and I have been fine since.

Brief Answer:
No, laxatives would make symptoms worse.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,
Thank you for trusting 'Ask A Doctor' service,

The symptoms you are describing are mostly suggestive of gastroenteritis which is an infection of the intestine.

Stool analysis and culture studies are required to confirm the diagnosis. Management is with antibiotics (usually a combination of Ciprofloxacin and Metronidazole) for which you may need a prescription. So please be advised to follow up with the urgent care.

Meanwhile, drink plenty of water and electrolyte containing drinks like Gatorade. Take a soft diet. BRAT (Banana, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast) diet will be easier on your tummy.

You can also take Buscopan 10mg thrice daily for abdominal cramps.
Take some probiotics daily for the time being.

Hope this answers your query.
Please let me know if you need further clarification.
Regards
