Question: I wish to know if inflammation and pain from SI Nerve dysfunction caused by arthritis and not other causes can stopped. I am speaking if treatment methods are followed such as exercise therapy and taking anti inflammatory NSAIDS and Icing.

I have not seen the Drs notes on the final diagnosis on whether its IS dysfunction, or piriformis dysfunction but I have stabilized it with a SI Belt. If I do not hear the diagnosis before Hand, I do have an appointment on Friday so will get diagnosis then.

Brief Answer:
Yes it can be...

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and here is my advice.

Yes, SI dysfunction caused due to arthritis can be stopped.

As arthritis can not be reversed but you can slow down it's progress with regular physical exercise and balanced diet. Avoid forward bending and squatting position. Use support while walking.

You may require MRI lumbar spine with whole spine screening, nerve conduction studies, vitamin B12/D3 level, calcium (if not done earlier) after spine surgeon consultation.

Mean while, continue with Ibuprofen, icing, physical therapy and SI belt. Gentle application of heating pads will also help.

Hope I have answered your query.
