Question: I wondered if you can help with an issue I have had occasionally most of my life (10-15 years at least). occasionally, when I have an impact like hitting a golf ball wrong, kicking a football or hitting cricket ball hard my heart temporarily races to 160-170bpm for a few minutes. it reduces to 100-110bpm before returning to normal a few minutes later at the longest. it happens once or twice a year (at the most) and I never experience it other than with one of these "impacts". what could this be and could it be dangerous or normal? my normal resting heart rate shows as normal and any self tests I have had done (never while having an episode) show no AFib or anything else.

Hello

After going through the symptoms detailed by you I would like to tell you that it could be due to some very transient underlying cardiac arrhythmia.

These arrhythmias can sometimes be insignificant which just causes discomfort like PSVT and frequent ventricular ectopic and sometimes they could be significant like AFib or NSVT and can lead to life threatening situations.

I would like to know few details
1. Your age and gender
2. Any other medical condition like diabetes, thyroid dysfunction etc?
3. Smoking habit?
4. Family history of heart disease?

If you have done any cardiac tests recently then kindly upload the images of the reports for evaluation.

thanks. being that it has been an issue for a long period without getting worse, and the episodes last more than 30 seconds but less than 5 minutes is one more likely than the other? in answer to questions - male age 33 - non-diabetic, normal BP - non smoker - no family history of heart disease - existent for 10 years with no progression (a regression if anything as episodes are less common as time goes on, currently occurring 1-2 times a year)

Taking into consideration your age group and no significant risk factor or any family history of heart disease it’s highly unlikely that there will be any significant issues.

If you don’t feel any symptoms like giddiness or feeling of fainting at the time of those episodes then you can ignore this safely. However if any symptoms occur during that time then it’s advisable that you should undergo the following tests

1. Echocardiogram
2. HOLTER monitoring for 48 hrs.
3. Thyroid profile

thanks. are most of these cause mentioned above such as PSVT AFib and NSVT curable/treatable so they don't have a negative impact on life expectancy and lifestyle? or are they progressive? lastly, how do they test for this if episodes only occur extremely infrequently? or is it only worth testing if they become more regular?
