Question: Hi doctor i would like to know what causes vitiligo? And what mainly triggers the vitiligo?

Its sign symptoms and how to cure if someone has it and what tests are or should be done for correct diagnosis

What causes vitiligo?
Vitiligo is a depigmenting disorder that is acquired mostly as an autoimmune condition, in thyroid disorders, defect in the melanocytes, due to a neurochemical mediator, or some metabolite of melanin causes destruction of melanocytes.

What triggers vitiligo?
The white macules happen mostly at the sites of trauma.

Signs and symptoms of vitiligo?
Vitiligo manifests as depigmented macules with normal skin surrounding it. The whitish macules are oval or round and well-demarcated. Size is less than few centimeters. Common sites of these macules are usually sites of trauma like dorsum of hands, trunk, neck, around the lips.
There maybe other associated diseases like alopecia areata, goiter, anemia etc.

Tests for correct diagnosis?
Wood light examination biopsy

Treatment of vitiligo?
Many treatment modalities used like topical medicines, systemic medicines, phototherapy, laser therapy, and surgery can be used.
