Question: Hi Doctor,

I would like to take a 'homocysteine level' test. As mentioned in my medical history of ancestors, we are really not sure of the cause of the deaths as mentioned below. The cardiologist of my aunt (sister of my mother - 60 yrs) had suggested that it could be because of the homocysteine and apparently when she undertook this test, she had high levels and was at a risk.

Ive listed a few tests below, do any of these tests check the homocysteine levels?
These are a part of the discounted tests, so i wanted to know if it is already included in the below.

CBC (Complete Blood Count)
ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate)
FBS (Fasting Blood Sugar)
PPBS (Post Prandial Blood Sugar)
Lipid profile
Serum cholesterol
HDL cholesterol
LDL cholesterol
Serum triglycerides
Liver function tests
Bilirubin (direct/conjugated)
Bilirubin (indirect/unconjugated)
Bilirubin (total)
SGOT/AST
SGPT/ALT
ALP (Alkaline Phosphatase)
GGTP (Gamma Glutamyl TransPeptidase)
Proteins (Albumin)
Proteins (total)
Routine Urine
Resting ECG (Electrocardiogram)
Thyroid Profile
Blood urea
Serum Creatinine

Further, is there any natural manner like lifestyle that should be taken care of?

Thank you!

Regards
AW

Brief Answer:
No, it doesn't include homocysteine levels

Detailed Answer:
No, the mentioned tests do not include the homocysteine levels. You need to advise it separately. Also, along with homocysteine, Vit B12 and folate levels should be obtained as their deficiency is the usual cause for homocysteine elevation. Also, along with above tests, it's important to get HSCRP which predicts the risk of future cardiovascular events.
Homocysteine may be lowered with Vit B12 / folate supplements. Also, a healthy lifestyle will help to counteract the effects of elevated homocysteine.
In such patients with risk of sudden cardiac death, all first degree should get their echo done and if needed cardiac MRI. Also, stress test to detect asymptomatic blockages. Structural heart disease like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or ARVC, Long QT syndrome are the usual cause for sudden cardiac death.
Hope this helps you and get back if you have any doubts.
Thanks.
