Question: I%E2%80%99m a 58 year old woman with hypertension.

My doctor said that I have cataracts in both eyes but since it does not appear to interfere with my vision - to wait a few years more without surgery.
I would like to know whether I should wait or get it done?
Do you have to wait till you have vision problems to go for surgery?
If older, are there be complications?

Brief Answer:
Probably the cataract surgery should be post pointed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Cataract surgery is very safe and effective.

Usually it is recommended to do cataract surgery in case that you have advanced macular degeneration or a detached retina as well as cataracts.

In case that the cataract does not interfere the vision, the surgery is usually post pointed.

I recommend regular check ups for further evaluation in time.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
