II Had A Cold About 7 Days Ago That Started
Question: II had a cold about 7 days ago that started to taper off last weekend. Starting Sunday or so I was only dealing with yellow mucus from from my nose, but late Sunday I started seeing streaks of blood whenever I cleared my right nostril. That bleeding hasn't stopped since. There is no free flowing blood, and I only occasionally get blood when blowing my nose but when I snort the mucus down the back of my throat and into my mouth there has been blood off and on for the entire week. That amount has been very small, so I was waiting to see my Doctor on Monday, but I just cleared a rather rather clot. It was very dark red, which makes me think it was in there a while. Now I am not getting anything but clear mucus. I have two questions. Is it possible that had a bleed that just didn't clear the clot until now, and what I have been seeing is little bit of the clot...or is it more likely that I have posterior bleed going? If it is a posterior bleed, and I'm not getting constant blood down the back of my throat, am I ok to wait to see the doc on Monday or should I be headed to urgent care or the ER now?
Brief Answer:
No need for urgent care visit at this time!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.
There is really no need to go to the urgent care at this time. This is not uncommon and poses no increased danger or threat to life. Blow the nostrils gently and avoid picking on them. All is well and there is no need to panic excessively at this time. Seeing your doctor on Monday is totally fine.
I hope this addresses your worry. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.
