IS Colonoscopy Safe When Suffering From Fever With Chill?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 May 2014
Question: I am in the midst of a Surprep kit and am wondering what I should do with how I feel. I am due for my colonoscopy in the morning and I have one more session to take. Since I took the first one, I cleared out rather quickly but feel like I have a rather high fever with chills and some lower left quadrant pain very similar to my episodes of diverticulitis. Should I discontinue this right now and re-schedule??

Brief Answer: Rest and antibiotics necessary Detailed Answer: Hi, Thanks for writing in. If you have fever with chills it means there is an exacerbation of diverticulitis. I don't feel it is related to suprep kit. Under such circumstances it is better to rest the bowel and take a course of antibiotics till the pain and fever completely subsides. I think you should defer colonoscopy till you are symptom free with respect to infection. In my opinion, you should call the doctor. Discuss about it. If your doctors also feel the same, you should be started on antibiotics. Hope this helps. Regards
