IS Homeopathy Medicine Available For Keratoconus?
Thanks for writing to us.
There is no homeopathic treatment available for Keratoconus till date. No reference till date is available to indicate that keratoconus can be treated with homeopathic means. The reason being, as you might be knowing, in karatoconus there is structural defect in the cornea.
Normally the cornea has dome shape, like a ball. Sometimes however the structure of cornea is just not strong enough to hold the shape and cornea bulges outwards like a cone. Tiny fibers of protein in the eye called collagen help hold the cornea in place and keep it from bulging. When these fibers become weak, they cannot hold the shape and cornea becomes progressively more cone shaped.
From the cause of keratoconus described above it become quite clear that keratoconus is structural defect and cannot be managed by means of drugs homeopathic or allopathic.

Thanks for your follow up.
Corneal collagen cross linking was developed in 1988 has shown in numerous clinical trails to strengthen the cornea and improves the vision.It is also used with other technologies like microwave energy with the goal of improving vision more quickly.It is not wastage of time.

Your this question sounds good and infarct should have been your first question. Any way treatment for keratoconus depends on the severity of your condition and how quickly the condition is progressing. Various modalities available for keratoconcus are as under;
No 1.Eye glasses.
No 2. Contact lenses.
No 3. Surgery.
Eye glasses; Mild to moderate keratoconus can be treated with eyeglasses. For most people cornea will become stable after few years. You won’t often experience sever vision problem and require treatment.
Contact lenses; these are used for moderate to advanced keratoconus and various type of contact lenses available for keratocous treatment. Your doctor can explain you more about the types and advantages and demerits of each type.
Surgery. Various available surgical procedures. I have taken these relevant excerpts from the internet for easy of explanation. You may continue to read it or you can speak to the surgeon.
Intacs.These surgically applied corneal inserts. These tiny plastic inserts are placed under eye’s surface in the periphery of cornea and help reshape the cornea for clear vision.
These are used when patients no longer can obtain functional vision with contact lenses. Studies have proved that inserts can improve the best spectacle corrected visual acuity (BSCVA) for a keratoconic eye by an average of 2 lines on a standard eye chart. These have advantage of removable and exchangeable. Surgical procedure takes 10 minutes only. Intacs might delay but cannot prevent a corneal transplant if keratoconus continues to progress .
Topography guided conductive keratoplasty.Early result of this technique shows this procedure might help smooth irregularities in corneal surface. More study is needed for this procedure.
Corneal transplant .Some people reach the point where no therapy provide acceptable vision and the last remedy to be considered may be corneal transplant also called as penetrating keratoplasty. Even after corneal transplant you most likely will need glasses or contact lenses for clear vision.
Yes surgery is available in India. Cost varies from place to place and from Hospital to hospital. At an average in India it would cost between 1 lakhs to 2 lakhs.
