If I Do Have To Have Surgery Can You Let Me Know How Long Recovery Is Before I Can Be Active Again?

Question: I have a fracture to my big toe week ago and it still aches. The podiatrist just told me to wear hard sole shoe and we will re-X-ray in 3 weeks. She said bone usually re-attaches 50 percent of time but if not I will need surgery.
I’m an active person and this is getting me down mentally. If I do have to have surgery can you let me know how long recovery is before I can be active again?
Thank you!

Brief Answer:
3weeks to 6 weeks would be an approximate recovery time
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have read your query and understood your concern .As mentioned by your podiatrist ,toe fractures heal on their own without any intervention but incase the fracture still persists and the symptoms worsen a surgical repair might be suggested and the recovery usually takes around 3 weeks to 6 weeks ,again which varies in every individual.
Kindly do not get worked up thinking about the surgery and recovery as in 50 percent of cases the healing occurs without any intervention. I would recommend restriction of movement in the affected toe and wearing hard sole shoes to promote healing .
Regards.
