I'm Extremely Concerned About My Mortality Rate Even Though The Biopsy Has Not Come Back
Question: I had an EUS scope performed on December 07, 2022 for a liver biopsy. The findings were normal appearing liver but heptic vein of 16.75mm and portal vein pressure of 15.75 mm. Both were averages from four readings each. I'm extremely concerned about my mortality rate even though the biopsy has not come back.

I am 53 years of age and female. The biopsy was done due to upper right quadrant pain with gas and bloating that has been going on for about 13 years. Doctors guessed it was a fatty liver due to elevated liver enzymes, but the enzymes had stabilized. I had an ANA test done with a 1:80 titer result with a speckled pattern. I also had the following results too:

Brief Answer:
No risk
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the reports
Sorry for the delay in my response,
I have seen the reports attached, these do not direct onto any diagnosis related to the liver. I do not suspect any risk of mortality here.
I would like to know why are you concerned about mortality when the reports are ok.
Regards,
No risk

It was due to the excessively high portal and hepatic hypertension.
Brief Answer:
varicies
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
The normal portal vein pressure is from 5 to 12 mm of Hg. Anything above 12 is considered portal hypertension. In such cases it becomes necessary to check the liver status regularly but in case the portal hypertension persists and crosses more than 15mm it can result in varicies in the esophagus and rectum leading to bleeding. It is then the mortality increases.

varicies
