IBS usually involves abdominal discomfort that is relieved by passing of stool or gas which is uncommon in diverticulitis. Diverticulitis is often experienced as a constant pain with associated low grade fever. In either case, I suggest you try aspirin and fiber rich diet. If it doesn't resolve within a few days you should see a doctor.
