I’m Recovering From A Flare Of Diverticulitis I’m Having Very Loose Stools And Diarrhea Is This Something To Be Concerned About?

Horrific reaction to flagyl, was sent home with amoxicillin.
Am doing a little better every day, pain is subsiding. I’m introducing low fiber foods.
Problem is, I’m having very loose stools and diarrhea since yesterday (hadn’t had any bowel
Movements for three days while in the hospital on clear liquid).
Is this something to be concerned about?
This is my second attack in 1.5 years. I eat the recommended fiber mostly every day, I don’t eat junk. I make protein smoothies for breakfast, eat fruit and high fiber veggies and very little red meat.
I’m exhausted trying to figure out how to prevent these attacks as they now say it isn’t food related.
Maddening.
Please advise on the diarrhea? I know amoxy causes this but sometimes it’s very watery.
Thank you!
Stop antibiotics and take probiotics
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
The loose stools may be due to the attack of diverticulitis and not due to antibiotics. The acute form of diverticulitis can manifest itself with one or more severe attacks of infection and inflammation and inflammation of diverticulitis can eventually result in slight bowel obstruction, which may cause constipation, thin stools, diarrhea, abdominal bloating, and pain.
As of now you can stop all the antibiotics as antibiotics has got limited role in diverticulitis. Continue low fiber diet.
You can take probiotics vizylac( lactic acid bacillus capsules) for symptomatic relief.
Nothing much to worry as it will generally settle in few days.
Wishing you good health.
Thanks

i was told by my doctors to finish all 14 days of amoxicillin. All articles ive read are very clear that any antibiotics be finished when an attack happens.
why are you saying to stop medication that other doctors say is critical to finish??
Antibiotics are not needed for uncomplicated cases.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the followup.
Newer research indicates that antibiotics aren’t always needed or helpful for uncomplicated diverticulitis. Most cases of the diverticulitis are uncomplicated and thus antibiotics are not necessary actually. It is actually indicated in complicated diverticulitis with complications such as abscess and fistula.
However there is nothing wrong in starting antibiotics at the initial stage for faster recovery.
In your case the acute inflammation has settled so antibiotics are not required actually.
Wishing you good health.
Thanks

youre a quack. you should be removed from this service.
I can give you the references
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
As of now you are on oral antibiotics and you have already taken IV antibiotics. That means the acute phase has subsided. If you can’t tolerate oral antibiotics you can stop them and nothing will happen.
I clearly mentioned that antibiotics is required for complicated and serious forms of the disease. You haven’t mentioned about the severity of the illness and I thought it’s just a simple exacerbation.
I can give you the reference if you needed.
