Question: I'm supposed to take 25mg of Metoprolol Tartrate 2 times a day. I took one this morning and I do not want to continue taking this medication. Being I just started and only have taken one does of 25mg so far, will it be dangerous to discontinue this drug. My doctor prescribed it because I had a positive stress test and are awaiting to have angiogram. I would rather wait until the results of the angiogram.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for the query. I can understand your concern. According to your statement, you want to stop taking beta-blocker that has been prescribed by your doctor after watching your positive stress test.

Your doctor is the best judge to choose the appropriate medication for your well-being. As, your stress test has become positive, so he decides to beta-blocker for you. During the stress test, your doctor has found some changes in your cardiac activities, for that reason he has prescribed the beta-blocker. Beta-blocker can control high heart rate, irregular heart rhythms or arrhythmia, high blood pressure and reduce cardiac workloads, oxygen consumption and prevent future heart attacks.

So, you should take a beta-blocker in dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Stopping this medication may worsen your cardiac conditions.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
