I’m Worried I Have HIV . My Palms Have Been

default
Posted on Thu, 4 Jul 2019
Question: I’m worried I have HIV. My palms have been a little red for at least a few years, but got very red a few weeks after I gave oral sex to a man. He says he is negative but I don’t know for sure. Anyway, it is now about 10 months later and my palms are still splotchy red. If they have been red all this time does that mean it could be HIV?

Brief Answer:
Redness of palms is unlikely to be a symptom for HIV infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
Thanks for posting your query.

Oral sex carries a low risk for HIV transmission as per CDC, XXXXXXX

Redness of palms in no way is a primary symptom of HIV infection. You did not mention whether you had any itching of palms associated with the palmar redness, was there any?

Possibly it could be due to some allergy or irritation to your palmar skin due to some contact with your palms like detergents, chemicals, handling objects or occupational exposures to some contacts, etc.

Not to worry.

Anyway, rule out HIV by undergone HIV test to relax from any unnecessary mental tension.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
