Previous medical issues: recurrent upper respiratory infections (ear infections, strep, bronchitis, pneumonia), fall/spring/dust mite allergies, recurrent cough and wheezing (possible asthma but not diagnosed), recurrent bouts of itching/hives that can be managed through Benadryl.
Get done chest x ray.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the detailed history you have given.
In my opinion, he should definitely get done chest x ray and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
Chest x ray is needed to rule pneumonia.
PFT is needed for asthma diagnosis and severity.
So better to consult pulmonologist and get done clinical examination of respiratory system, chest x ray and PFT.
He may need inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS). For recurrent respiratory tract infection, better to give annual flu vaccine.
Please let me know
1. Are you giving him annual flu shot?
2. Has he ever undergone PFT?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your son. Thanks

Yes, he is also getting the flu shot every year.
I guess my main concern was about how frequently he gets sick. I just didn't know if the high red blood cell count on the report was something I should worry about or not. It seems crazy that he gets sick all the time and now he has high red blood cell count. But if its normal, then I won't worry about it. Thanks for your help.
No need to worry for high RBC count.
