Question: In breast cancer bone Metastasis would the alkaline phosphate and calcium levels be elevated? If so, greater than what level?
Brief Answer:
Not always
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
There is no hard and fast rule that alkaline phosphatase and calcium would be high in bone metastasis from breast cancer. Alkaline phosphatase is elevated in around 70% cases and calcium only in about 10% cases.
There's also no particular level. They may be normal, marginally elevated or very high too.
Basically, when elevated, these raise the suspicion but when normal, they don't rule out metastases.
Hope this helps.
