default
Posted on Sun, 30 Sep 2018
Question: In the mornings sometimes I get dry heaves and feel as though I may throw up. This past Friday about 11:30 a.m. I was rushing, got in my friend's car and had above symptoms. After about 2-4 minutes, I'm fine. Just happedned again today about same time. Wasn't rushing. I'm on oxygen, 71, and in "good" health, even though I have asthma and copd, high blood pressure and take 2 650 mg Tylenol for arthritis daily. These episodes have happened in the past, about 2-3 times this summer usually when rushing around and late for some event.

Brief Answer:
Orthostatic hypertension suspected.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

I think this episodes of dry heaves you refer while rushing are orthostatic hypotension.
It us a decrease in blood pressure when moving suddenly for sitting to standing.
It may be caused by the antihypertensive drugs you are taking.
There is no specific treatment just to pay attention to your movements, standing up gradually and supporting yourself.
Also keep yourself hydrated because dehydration is a cause.
And also remember that prilosec gives nausea.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further
