Infant Has Jaundice. Sonograph Showed Shrunken Gall Bladder. Is This A Sign Of Biliary Atresia?
Question: One month old baby is jaundice, and sonograph was unremarkable except for a shrunken gall bladder. Is this a sign of biliary atresia?

No, shrunken gall bladder is not always an indication for Biliary Atresia.A MRI (Magnetic resonance imaging) scan would be the best diagnostic tool to rule out biliary atresia.
There are numerous other causes of jaundice in a 2 month old starting with haemolytic anaemia and enzyme deficiencies.
Though Biliary atresia presents with jaundice in such a early age it needs better imaging techniques like MRI to rule it out.
