Inflammation Of Vulva. Vulva Biopsy Done. Taken Canesten Hydrocortisone, Betnovate, Dermovate. Can Ayurveda Cure This Problem?
I have been suffering with chronic inflamation of the vulva for about a year and a half now. A vulval biopsy has been done to confirm this outcome. I've been given many creams to apply on the area over this time; first canesten hydrocortisone (no thrush ever present), then betnovate, then dermovate...and currently I have been applying trimovate for the last 3 months, twice a day.
The real area of constant inflamation/discomfort is the clitoris itself. I don't believe it's doing any good; indeed if anything making things worse because the cream is so strong, it collects in the fold under the clitoril hood (even if I apply a little) then it's difficult to cleanse. I sometimes to not put anything of for a few days, but then it'll start to get worse.
I do all the things you are 'meant to do' with regards to this area for good health/hygiene. I cleanse the area gently with warm water only. I wash with acqueous cream in the shower on other parts of the body. I wear cotton underwear. I don't use panty liners. I wear loose fitting clothee etc etc.
Because of the discomfort, I have not had vaginal intercourse with my husband during this time. The only time this area is touched is when I apply the cream/ or to wash.
I look forward to your response to see if you believe there is anything I can do the Ayurveda way to get better.
Many thanks

Thanks for writing in.
I would request you to answer a few questions so that I can guide you better.
1. Is the swelling associated with pain? If yes, then what is the nature of pain, dull constant, sharp cutting or burning painful, or pain is there only on touch? Do you have any history of boil or pus like discharge?
2. Is there any burning while urination? If yes, then does burning continue even after passing of urine?
3. What is the report of biopsy? What diagnosis was made during your investigative phase?
4. What about reports for VDRL, ESR, Hb etc?
5. Did you ever receive any medicine that gave relief for long duration but the condition relapsed thereafter?
6. Is there any type of discharge such as leucorrhoea?
7. Do you have any history of dilation and curettage?
8. Are you hypertensive or diabetic? If yes, then what is present status?
I can definitely reassure you that ayurveda has a cure for you.
Awaiting your reply

1.Generally the pain is only on touch – even sometimes the rubbing of knickers over the area when walking can cause the pain/irritation, or when I bend down to pick something up from the floor and again the material of the clothes makes contact with the area – when that happens it feels like a sharp cutting pain. Often soreness when I sit down. The clitoris is always a deeper, more redder colour than the rest of the vulva area.
I have no history of boils or pus like discharge.
2. I don’t have ‘burning’ while urinating. However, since the beginning of January this year, I have on/off ‘irritation’ which feels as though it comes from the urethra opening/tube. Some days, the irritation is not present. Other days, the irritation will worsen as the day progresses until I feel like I want to climb the walls. Other days, it will be present for a little while after I have urinated, maybe for ten minutes to half an hour, then it subsides. But whist actually in the process of urinating, I feel no irritation.
I have had cystitis in the past, and know how that distinct ‘burning’ feeling feels. The irritation/tingling feeling is more difficult to describe. More like signals to nerve ending being turned on and off!
I had an ultrasound of my waterworks last week, and the doctor informed me that I have a blockage in my left kidney, which he believes has been there for many years. Nothing more has been said to me about the blockage. I am due to have a cytoscopy and an isotope renogram scan over the next few weeks to investigate further. I have been told however that they do not believe the blockage is anything to do with my urethral irritation.
3.The report simply said that the tissue sample was normal, and showed no disease. A diagnosis of Non Specific Chronic Inflammation was made, as it is not understood what is causing the inflammation.
4. I was tested for VD’s and treated for Gonnorrhea about 10 years ago, before going into a relationship with my new partner/now husband. The only information that has been shared with me from any blood tests that have been done over recent months is that my C reactive protein levels have been raised/and fluctuate. They have been x2 or at one point x4 times the maximum, accepted ‘norm’.
5. Sometimes I think that the benovate cream worked best…but then other times I think that the reason why the area is not as angry is because it is no longer being aggravated by sexual intercourse.
6. I have believed for many years that I have leucorrhoea as appose to a normal vaginal discharge, but it has always been always dismissed. This is despite the fact that whenever I have had a pelvic exam etc, I am always told it looks ‘thrushy’ down there…and for years have been automatically given thrush treatment, without any swabs being taken. Through insisting in recent years that swabs are taken, my general practice have now come to realize that it is not thrush; so now I am told it’s just a very thick white discharge, how natural discharge changes from women to women, and that it’s normal. If it’s so normal, why have doctors previously always thought it was thrush?!!
I have had my female hormones tested, and told they were of normal range.
7. No.I have never had a D & C.
8. No, I am not hypertensive or diabetic.
Thanks for writing back. I have gone through your reply.
There are some issues in the past that draw some concern.
To keep a track of the extent of infection it will be better to get simple blood test of TLC (Total Leukocyte Count), DLC (Differential Leukocyte Count) and ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate).
Going by the totality of the case, I would suggest you to start with following medicines and report the progress after seven days.
Mahamanjishtha arisht and dashmoola arisht 2 teaspoon each mixed with equal quantity of water. Tablet XXXXXXX guggul, tab. kaishore Guggul, Haridra khand powder.
The medicine will have to be taken for a bit longer period but I would like to evaluate on weekly basis.
Repeat ESR after seven days and write back.
Taper off local application of steroids; In case you feel dryness and rough area just apply coconut oil initially.
Hope this helps. Please do write back in case you have any follow up queries.

Dr. Rajesh Lakhanpaul
I have read your email with interest. Unfortunately, I am not able to go to my doctor and demand for him to do a blood test, nor indeed a repeat test a week later. Online tests are many hundreds of pounds - and to be honest I would not trust these kind of online services.
With regards to the medicines you list. Can you give me details of a reputable supplier/s please? I have tried searching for these medicines under supposed Ayuveda suppliers in the UK, but the medicines you suggest are not found.
I look forward to receiving your email

I have gone through your mail, I believe there is no problem even if you can not get the blood tests done. I wanted them to note the progress of treatment. Well you can watch the symptoms more precisely.
As far as availability of these drugs is concerned. They are standard formulations and should be easily available from any Ayurvedic store. You can check if the pharmacist can procure them for you specially. You can check in Baba XXXXXXX Dev's store. I hope you get the medicines easily.
Report back to me I would like to associate for follow up progress.
Wish you a speedy recovery and total health.
Dr. Rajesh Lakhanpaul
I have continued to have incredible difficulty obtaining the arishtas you recommend. I've been in touch with the Ayurvedic Association of Practitioners in the UK, and the main problem comes from our stringent rules and regulations of such medicines, nor will anyone procure them.
I have however, found somebody who is able to supply them, but only presently has dashmool arishta in stock and does not know when he will be able to get the mahamanjishtha in stock, again because he first has to get things past Customs etc.
I have been told to ask you if there is any substitute kashayam tablet I could take for the mahamjishtha, eg mahamjisthtadi kashayam/kwath? Tablets forms are far more readily available here.
If this is a suitable substitute, should I obtain the tablet form along with purchasing the dashmool arishta, or should I wait until I am able to obtain the mahamanjistha arishta too, as this I believe may be more potent?
I await your advice...I am very eager to get things started!
Best wishes

I can understand your problem to procure such medicines but we can start with substitutes. In case mahamanjishta arisht is not available, you can start with maha manjishtha ghan vati until arisht becomes available.
Wish you perfect health.
