Question: Hi ,
My son is 16 years old. He is having viral fever and running temperature close to 104 for past 2 days.
I have been giving him para 650 mg and doctor has advised to give Meftal 500 mg.
What is the advised dosage for a kid weighing 45 to 50 Kg.

Brief Answer:
Give 500 mg of mefenemic said.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for asking on this platform.
The Meftal tablet contains mefenemic acid and is used in bringing down the temperature in resistant cases or when paracetamol does not work.
For 55-60 kg patients you may give 1 tablet of 500 mg. It can be given upto 3 times a day at an interval of 8 hours depending on the severity of fever. Do tepid sponging also for better results.
If fever persists even after giving paracetamol and mefenemic acid please consult your physician.
Wishing for your child's rapid recovery..

Thanks Doctor for quick response.
To-day is 3rd day of his fever. I have so far not gone for any blood tests [ platelets or Dengue ].
What is your recommendation for the same. Should I wait for 3 complete days and see if his temperature starts declining OR go for blood checkup to-day.
We have him paracetamol 650 mg at 10:00 PM and Meftal 250 mg at 11:00 PM yesterday night.
Right now at 11:00 AM [ After 12 hours of giving Meftal 250 ] , the temperature is 102 and now we have again given him Paracetamol 650 mg.

Brief Answer:
I would suggest to go for investigations
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for follow up
In this endemic season of dengue I would prefer to go for investigations if fever is of high grade and there is associated headache.
It is very important because in case of decreased platelet only paracetamol should be given for fever.
Prefer to give paracetamol only for fever and do tepid sponging.
