Is Aleve Recommended For Severe Pain And Swelling?
Question: I am 3 weeks post op on my 2nd TKR and having issues with pain meds. Prior to the 1st TKR, 15 weeks post op, I only took 2 Aleve twice a day to control pain &a swelling. Now I'm on 10/325 Norco every 4 hrs with Dilaudid every 4 hrs. The Oxycodone, Morphine, Diazapine, and number out other narcotics don't work after finally convincing the surgeon. I would like to go back to my Aleve that worked so well prior. In addition to Aleve, I was also getting Accupuncture to control swelling - do you think it's safe to resume the Aleve & Accupuncture now?
Brief Answer:
Go back to Aleve
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your helath care concerns
I am sorry to hear that you had TKR and that your pain is not being controlled well with the narcotics they are prescribing. I think you are completely right in stopping the narcotics and just using the aleve. Since your use of narcotics have been limited you can stop without withdrawal issues. You can start the aleve now also without concern of bleeding. So please stop the narcotics and return to aleve. You can also restart the acupuncture if you so wish also without problems related to your surgery.
I hope I answered your question. Please contact us again if you have any additional questions
