Question: Is Amox-clav safe for someone who has a low GFR, in the mid 20's? This med was given to my wife instead of Keflex which the Dr thought maybe that was causing her gastric distress... She has had a bad infection in her left knee for some time, refer to her dashboard. The Dr who changed to amox is familiar with my wife's kidney problem but we are wondering anyway.

Brief Answer:
Amoxicillin is known to have side effect of Gastric Discomfort

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query
Based on the facts that you have posted your wife who has Knee infection was prescribed Keflex however your family physician has changed it to Amoxicillin as Kflex gas side effect of gastric discomfort

I would state that Amoxicilin has side effect of Gastric discomfort more than all other antibiotics

As regards your query I would say that it has no effect on low GFR

Thanks and Regards
