Is Amoxicillin Advisable When Diagnosed With Diverticulitis?
Question: I have diverticulitis. Just finished my precription of Cypro & Flaggel. I still have some slight discomfort. Can I take amoxicillin to continue recovery?
Brief Answer:
Either continue longer the treatment you have been taking or Amoxiclav
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for using HCM to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.
I would recommend to either use the treatment you were taking for some more days (because the recommendations are 7-10 days) or take Amoxicillin-clavulanate because it has a broader spectrum of treatment then just Amoxicillin.
If worse or not better, I would recommend seeing a local doctor.
Hope this is helpful.

Why not Amoxicillin?
Brief Answer:
Amoxicillin does not cover all the possible bacteria causes of diverticulit
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for the follow-up question.
Amoxicillin is not an antibiotic which covers all the pathogens that may have caused the diverticulitis. So if you didn't get better with the ones you have already used, then you surely wont get better with it.
Amoxiclav its an antibiotic which has Amoxicillin but also a component which makes it much better against the causes of your diverticulitis. The recommendations didn't mention amoxicillin but Amoxiclav was one of the options.
I hope this makes sense and that I have answered your question.
