Is DHEAS Elevation Indicative Of PCOS?
DHEAS rise Present but not sufficient for diagnosis of PCOS
Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome
I appreciate your concern
PCOS diagnosis is confirmed with an LH to FSH ratio in the range of 3:1, which is not present here in your case. DHEAS elevation is present in PCOS but DHEAS elevation alone cannot be used to diagnose PCOS as its elevated in a number of other conditions including Cushings, premature adrenarche, Ectopic ACTH secreting tumor etc. PCOS involves chronic anovulation with resulting infertility that typically presents with irregular vaginal bleeding. Hirsuitism and obesity are also accompanied with variable severity. Please consult your doctor / Gynecologist to workup the raised DHEAS in light of your clinical examination findings.
Wishing you best of health

Hello again.
Your doctor is right. Abnormal DHEAS is not diagnostic of any disease and should be measured in conjunction with the clinical presentation and other hormones level. It can be increased in stressful situations and even smoking.

Hello.
There is no concrete evidence to suggest causative correlation between stress and insulin resistance. Stress in itself can be an association of a number of conditions but whether it specifically triggers the pathway towards insulin resistance is highly unlikely.
